Martin IV, took a unique path to law—from military service to mechanical engineering to helping lead his family’s business. Frustrated by inefficiencies in traditional law firms, he created a firm that operates with transparency and a client-first mindset.
Drawing from his diverse background, John envisioned a legal practice that prioritizes relationships over transactions and delivers expert counsel without the burden of hourly billing. In 2024, Treebank Legal was born, combining innovative legal solutions with deep business insight to serve family-owned businesses and entrepreneurs.

What’s in the name?
In 1983, founder John Martin IV’s mother became pregnant with her third child. Thinking it was another boy, his parents granted naming rights to John and his brother. The brothers came up with “Herbert Sherbert Treebank Martin.” Thankfully, his parents revoked the rights when his sister was born, but the name wasn’t dead.
The following year, John’s dad named his new business venture “H.S. Treebank, Inc.,” a consolation prize for the brothers. This business made steel wire for concrete constructions and industrial applications. Forty years (to the day) later, Treebank Group LLC was founded. The name is a tribute to three generations of entrepreneurship. The three separate shoots in our logo represent three generations of founders (John’s grandfather in 1953, John’s dad in 1984, and John in 2024), while the highest shoot signifies future growth.
